String art DIY

Depending on your design, you can either use embrodery thread that will result in delicate and precise final artpiece. For bigger designs, you may prefer to use thicker string, e.g. crochet thread. Apart from that, collect a piece of wood that will act as a canvas for your design.

Create your design, either digitally or manually. If you don't have an idea for the design, we encourage you to get inspired by nature surrounding you. A good strategy is using a hexagonal form, resembling a honeycomb. The final project should be in the exact scale that you wish to do your design. On the project, mark all the nail positions. Nails should be placed around 0,6cm apart from one another, so they are finely spaced. Mount the design to your piece of wood (canvas) but attaching the nails in the proper positions. Once every nail is set, remove your template and start wrapping the string by doing a fine, simple knot on the first nail. After finishing the outline of the project, start filling in the shape according to your imagination and creativity!

This technique is great to practice nailing as well as relaxing by working with threads.

Hopefully, you will have plenty of fun doing your design.
